The African Development Bank and the West African Tax Administration Forum have signed a landmark agreement to strengthen institutional capacity and advance sustainable development across the region.
The Director General of the African Development Bank, Nigeria office, Dr. Abdul Kamara, attended the ceremony on behalf of the Bank’s President, Dr. Sidi Ould Tah. Representatives from the Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as well as colleagues in Abuja, were also acknowledged.
The Chairman of WATAF, Madame Talato Eliane Djiguemde-Ouedraogo, was represented by the Executive Secretary, Mr. Jules Tapsoba, who was also in attendance in his own capacity. The former Executive Secretary of WATAF, Mr. Babatunde Oladapo, was also present in person.
Through this partnership, the AfDB will support WATAF’s domestic revenue mobilisation and tax reform initiatives, helping strengthen tax administration systems, improve financial oversight, and promote transparent and accountable governance across WATAF’s 16 member states.
Strong institutions build strong nations. Strategic collaborations like this reinforce a shared commitment to accountability, sustainability, and long-term economic resilience.
The Executive Secretary of WATAF also called on regional institutions such as Economic Community of West African States and West African Economic and Monetary Union to support the implementation of good tax administration practices across the region, particularly in fragile states requiring urgent institutional support.
