The West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) participated in the ECOWAS Parliamentary Seminar on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) held on 25 February 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria.
WATAF was represented by Ms. Deborah Azibator, Manager in charge of Finance at the WATAF Secretariat, who contributed to the thematic discussions on the role of tax administrations in advancing regional integration and supporting intra-African trade.
The Seminar, organised by the ECOWAS Parliament, focused on the theme:
“Deepening Regional Integration through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): Opportunities and Challenges for Expanding Intra-Community Trade within the ECOWAS Region.”
Discussions addressed key areas including:
Expanding regional value chains and industrial development under AfCFTA;
Tackling non-tariff barriers and logistics constraints;
Strengthening private sector participation, including MSMEs, women, and youth in regional trade.
WATAF reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing domestic revenue mobilisation, improving tax policy coherence, and supporting Member States in building strong fiscal systems that underpin sustainable regional integration.
