The delegation, led by WATAF Executive Secretary Mr. Jules Tapsoba, included Institutional Development and Corporate Affairs/Project Manager Ms. Wapinu Ndule and Research Consultant/Technical Lead Dr. Abiodun Adegboye.
Highlighting DGID’s Role in Regional Tax Development
The discussions, held in Dakar, highlighted the DGID’s crucial role in supporting WATAF’s mission across the West African region. Expressing gratitude for the DGID’s ongoing assistance, Mr. Tapsoba reaffirmed WATAF’s commitment to strengthening regional tax systems. He emphasised that Senegal’s DGID has been a vital ally in fostering cooperation and advancing the goals of tax administration in the region.
Identification of Member States’ Specific Needs to Address Critical Issues
A key highlight of the meeting was the launch of a specific needs assessment for Senegal’s tax administration to provide tailored solutions in the execution of FAFOA’s activities. As part of this ongoing exercise, FAFOA may also explore partnerships with international organisations to address broader regional challenges, including capacity building on new guidelines, mobilising domestic tax revenues, and implementing tools aimed at modernising tax administration and management.
Reaffirming WATAF’s Commitment to Member Support
The visit underscored WATAF’s unwavering commitment to supporting its members. The WATAF team reaffirmed its steadfast dedication to empowering the DGID with technical expertise and advocating for the shared interests of the sub-region.
As WATAF continues to expand its influence, partnerships like this with Senegal’s DGID are pivotal to creating a unified and effective regional tax administration network.
