On the 16th of March 2021, the West African Tax Administration Forum (WATAF) in collaboration with Andersen Tax commenced a virtual, four day Specialised Audit Training focusing on the Financial Sector: Banking and Insurance companies as part of its 2021 capacity development program to help member countries build capacity that will facilitate revenue generation for the development of countries in West Africa.
It is expected that the training will help to deepen the capacities of the participants in the complex nature of auditing the financial sector, especially the banking and finance sector.
The long-term objective of the training is to foster a sustainable growth agenda on a regional scale keeping in mind the fact that ECOWAS Countries (which are also the members of WATAF) are mostly low-income countries facing several socio-economic challenges, hence the need to maximise their revenue gains from the financial services sector through improved audit techniques.
Facilitators of the training are from the private and public sectors with many years of experience in tax compliance and tax audit. Also, in attendance were 80+ participants from 12 WATAF member countries.
